Is it safe for a young woman to go to Zambia?

I am a young American woman looking at a volunteer position working at a safari. I have never been to Africa. Are there safety concerns? Are there health concerns?
The safari is located in Kafue National Park in the South Western sector of Zambia. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
