Everybody wants to go Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. It is green, serene and so close to home. Spread to the total area of 29 square kilometers, it is a unique bird sanctuary with more than 364 species of birds. It was once the hunting ground of the Maharajah of Bharatpur, which was later on converted into the bird sanctuary. It is also the part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is considered as the one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the country.
Also known as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, it is located very close to the district of Bharatpur in the state of Rajasthan, India. The rich flora diversified with the dense forests provides the natural habitat to some of the migratory birds(from Siberia and Central Asia), who migrate here during the winters.
Said to be the paradise for the bird lovers, Bharatpur is home of several hundreds of species of birds. Some of the major attractions of the park include Sarus crane, Grey Heron, Brown Long Ear Bat, Wagtails, Warblers, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Buntings, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Kingfisher, Red Vented and White Cheeked Bulbuls, Babblers, Quails, Partridges, Sunbirds, Sparrows and Parakeets, Imperial Eagle, Steppe and Tawny Eagle, Spotted eagle, Marsh Harrier and Laggar Falcon, Duck Garganey Teal, Pelicans, Geese, Larks and Pipits etc. Apart from the great species of birds, Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar also inhabit the park.
To take the real essence of the park, get up early in the morning and head straight to the forest area, that hundreds of species of birds and animals in their natural habitat. Along with the expert guide, take the pair of binoculars and camera along with yourself. The amazing greenery, dancing wind and bird’s chirping will is enough to make your morning ride a pleasurable experience. As motor vehicles are not allowed inside the park, you can hire the cycle rickshaws or bicycles to explore the park.
Also save time for the historical tour to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Visit the famous Lohagarh Fort built by Raja Suraj Mal in the 18th century. Here you get to see the perfect amalgamation of traditional and Mughal architecture. Also visit the Government Museum inside the fort, which exhibits the art and culture of the region, including the various inscriptions and sculptures dating back to the 2nd century AD.
