Summer trip to Alaska.?

I am planning a trip to Alaska this summer. I need to end up in Denali National Park, so I was thinking of going into Fairbanks, then renting a car to drive there. What is the best mode of transportation to Alaska? Airline prices are outrageous. I was thinking of traveling by train, but there are no connecting railways. I live in Nevada. Driving is not entirely out of the question, but gas prices are also outrageous. What do you suggest?

I suggest flying, unless you want to spend the better part of a week getting there and back. That by itself can take the romance out of your summer vacation.

I recommend that you fly into Anchorage. You can spend some time there, and then catch the Alaska Railroad to Denali. Great scenery along the way.

Also, you could go south to Seward. The summer trains often have hired locals on them that explain all the sights and answer questions.
