Dogs in Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks?

We’re planning a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and are debating whether or not to bring our dog. Dogs are allowed but kind of just tolerated….they aren’t allowed anywhere except your vehicle or campsite. We won’t be able to take him hiking or anything to make sure he gets his exercise (he’s an aussie and will need a good run). I understand these rules but am wondering if it’s even worth it then? Have you (or anyone u know) brought along your canine on a trip through yellowstone? I would love to hear about some personal experiences and maybe you could share some advice :)

I’ve never taken my dog, but I would advise against it. Traffic will come to a stop on the roads because wild bison are standing in the road or someone spots a wolf or bear. Your dog will go nuts barking at things it sees out the window and it might spook the animals. Bison kill more visitors than any other wild animal in the park. I saw a bull bison run up a hill and over the top of a car while chasing another bull. I also saw a bison with a calf in the middle of the road staring down a car. One thing you do not want is a bison to feel your dog is threatening its calf and attack your car.

Here are some bison attack videos
