national park free weekend
Good (but free) hiking trails near Luray VA?
We’ll be there this weekend for our annual fall trip, but don’t want to shell out the $10-15 to get into the national park. Could anyone suggest any local but free hiking in the area? It’s such a great area, I’m sure there must be trails, but I’m not able to find any.
Note: We’re not advanced hikers and will have a toddler in a back carrier
Check out Hiking Trails/Virginia, select Trails.com and see what you find. It’s a very definitive website that specifies how long the trail, costs involved and what the level of expertise is.
BTW, the costs you mention are what pays for the maintenance of the trail for your safety. If something happens, you might want a Park Ranger around. Make sure to take a cell phone, water and high-carb snacks. Layer your clothing. As the sun sets, the temps can drop quickly.
I know that sounds elementary, but you’d be surprised how many people head out unprepared for an emergency.
