Is camping in Irish National Parks legal?

I’m thinking about going over to Ireland in a few weeks time to to generally camp and relax. But I’m not sure if actually camping anywhere other than a campsite in the national parks is legal. I know that in England and Wales it’s not technically legal but as long as you’re respectful to your surroundings and any residents most people don’t have a problem with it. Is it the same over there?

Thanks

Wilderness camping is allowed in the Wicklow Mountains National Park subject to a Camping Code. An exception to this is in the Glendalough Valley where no camping is allowed. You will find details of the code at the first site below. We have six National Parks in Ireland which are managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. You can see details and a map of the parks at their site (second below), I imagine that the code would apply in the other 6 parks.
