national park law enforcement

What is the difference between “protection” and “law enforcement” rangers in the National Park Service?

These terms show up on job vacancy notices, but job responsibilities don’t appear different.

Their primary responsibility varies. The “protection” division would manage the natural resources in the park, the “law enforcement” division manages the people visiting the park.

You need law enforcement certification for both, so I could assume they are both armed.
