Is there anyplace in Texas where people aren’t so arrogant?

I will be in Texas visiting Big Bend National Park, and I’d like to see another part of the state. The problem is that almost everyone I’ve met from Texas are cocky jerks that think Texas is the best state in the country. I’m proud of being from the midwest, but the Texans I met in the military were always so stuck-up. Whenever I corrected them and told them how they lost the Alamo after stealing it from Mexico, they became irate and would banter on about “Don’t mess with Texas” and how their barbecue was better than what I ate in St. Louis. Also, is there anywhere in the state that isn’t overrun by crazy right-wing Bush-loving republicans, or are there normal people that live there too?

Big Bend National Park is beautiful. The views are amazing. If possible, make sure to go white-water rafting.

What do you want to see in another part of the state? Big city? Small city? Texas is huge. There are a lot of places to choose from. It depends on what you want to experience.

If you went to Pecos during the mating season, you’d see thousands of tarantulas crawling about freely. And the cantaloupe is always worth a taste.

The big cities of San Antonio and Houston have plenty of attractions. And yes, there are a lot of places in Texas that are not Republican based. There are a lot of Democrat cities in Texas. It’s a very culturally rich state.

You’ve had the debates. Visit the Alamo. Regardless of history and what happened and who stole and who lost or whatnot. It’s a nice feeling to be there and see the size of it and what it might have been like.

The barbeque thing, hmmm. There’s a place slightly northwest of Austin that likes to boast. I drove through there once after a visit to Ft. Hood. I didn’t stop to see for myself whether or not they had a valid claim. But last time I drove through St. Louis I didn’t stop there to try the barbeque, either. I could have settled this issue for you if I had taken a little more extra time. Impartial judge.
