How do I get to Jotunheimen National Park (Norway)?

The difficulty is that I’m travelling with my dog and have no car. I know I can get to Otta by train and there’s buses to the park, but the buses don’t allow dogs. Ideas?

The Nor-Way buses don’t allow dogs, but sometimes the Fjord1 ones do. They have a bus from Otta to Lom (and further), you can see the routes here:

It doesn’t say dogs are allowed on their English pages, but this is in the Norwegian version:
“Transportøren har ikke plikt til å ta med levende dyr. Vognbetjeningen avgjør i hvilken utstrekning dyr kan tas med i rutebilen. Hunder skal holdes i bånd under transporten og plasseres slik at de ikke sjenerer andre reisende. ”

Basically, it says it is up to the operator to allow animals or not. I recommend contacting customer service to see if they can give you better info about that route.

If that doesn’t work, there’s really no other way to get to the park. Hitching isn’t reliable in Norway, although people usually have better luck in rural areas so it could work. A taxi would be incredibly expensive, so unless your budget is unlimited, it’s not an option. I hope it works out for you :) it’s a beautiful place.
