Yellow Stone Supervolcano?
So, in school we’re learning about super volcanoes and volcanoes and its kind of really interesting and scary. My teacher let us watch a video about the volcano in Yellow Stone National Park and I thought it was really cool, but the thing I’m worried about if it erupts would the pumice and all the bad chemicals [pumice, ash clouds] spread through out the united states? I live in Pennsylvania so would it be more difficult to breathe near the Yellow Stone National Park more than on the East Coast? I’m scared. ): I know it won’t happen for alot of years but you can never control nature and im at a young age so theres a greater chance that it will erupt in my lifetime. ): Anyway can you guys answer those questions i just asked.(: thanks, im still scared.
No one knows when it will erupt next. It seems to erupt roughly once every 700,000 years, it last erupted 640,000 years ago, so it is due, but that means it can erupt anytime between now and the next 100,000 years . Currently the supervolcano is dormant and calm, and it it doing what it has been doing all throughout recorded history, which is not much.
So really there is no need to worry yet as there is no evidence yet that it will be erupting soon.
