Becoming a superintendent for the National Park Service?

I currently work for the National Park Service and am a laborer (maintenance work). I’ve had this job for three years. I’m a sophomore college student and am a recreation and tourism major. It’s a good start, but I’m going to try to get a job either in the office or as a ranger next year to get better work experience because maintenance is not what I want to do for my career. I’m looking for advice to help me towards becoming a superintendent of a national park. I realize it’s going to be the typical “working up the ladder” deal. I have an internship to do for my major. I actually wanted to do this through the military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation department. It would involve recreation program planning, and it would also get me more experience with another government agency. Would doing an internship with the MWR help towards my career with the NPS or take me further away? I’d like to work for either agency and this way I would get experience and familar with both. Thank you.
