Shipping supplies to St. John USVI before vacation?

I had read online that you can and that some people recommend shipping some basic supplies to yourself before arriving in the US virgin islands. Such as no perishable, light weight foods, linens, whatever you might need for your stay but do not want to lug onto the airplane or buy when you get off of the plane. I have never heard of or done this before, we are renting a private villa for our stay which is in the national park on St. John and a ways away from the market place etc..
Has anyone done this before or could offer advice as far as what is ok to send, when to send it or any advice..I would really like to ship our snorkeling gear over too, but am unsure about it..

You can ship whatever you like. but you will be flying into St Thomas, and whether you are renting a car or taking a taxi or the bus there are grocery stores near by the ferrie terminal that you will take to get to stj. The food will be a little more expensive, but probobly cheaper than shipping it. You can also rent snorkle gear at many places.
