Camping Help?

I need help with a camping question for an assignment, if possible a detail answer would be greatful!

“You are a member of a party of 5 people that have undertaken a three night hike through the Cradle Mountain National park in Tasmania. One member of your party has fallen into a large crack in a rock and broken their tibula (leg bone). They have started to show signs of mild hypothermia and cannot walk due to their broken bone. How will you and your party get this person back to the carpark which is 7 hours walk away? What steps will you need to take first before you start to move this person”

Thanks

First of all you need to stabilize the patient… What is the most immediate threat to him, the broken leg or the hypothermia?

Once the patients most immediate threat is taken care of you can treat the other problem.

Once the injured leg is immobilized (both the joints above and below the break) you can think about moving the patient. In all honesty though, since you are a group of five people I would send two people to the parking lot to get help from Search and Rescue (SAR.) This will leave two people behind to care for the injured.

It will be exceedingly difficult to move an individual out of that situation without the proper equipment and you run a greater risk of further injuring the patient. SAR teams have both the experience and equipment to get the patient out quickly and with minimal risk of further injury.
