national park to park road
Is a visit to the Colorado Sand Dunes National Park worth it?
My best friend and I are going on a road trip out west this summer, starting in Chicago. We are visiting a number of National Parks, and we are trying to decide if we should add the Colorado Sand Dunes NP to the list. It would add an extra 3 hours onto the drive as well as an extra day to be spent there.
Has anyone been there? Is it beautiful enough to add on to our list of destinations?
Thank you!!!!
Yes, I have been there many times. if you can go end of may or early June when there is water in the river it is best. Take mosquito repellent and sun screen. The dunes are amazing. There are also great hot springs places nearby. The VERY best place to go in southwestern Colorado is Mesa Verde National park. It will take your breath away….you cannot imagine the scope of the cliff dwellings. You can easily spend 2 days there and not see all.
