6.Problems with feral animals
7.Nearby development
8.nearby mining or industry
……k guys thank you soooo much i hope you can help me
1. Type of its environment
“…islands and foreshore areas…with rare pockets of the bushland” (A)
2. Special Flora or Fauna
I did a search with the Wild Life Atlas provided by the NSW Government National Parks for (obviously) fauna:
http://wildlifeatlas.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/
I searched for ‘threatened species’ in the Sydney Harbour National Park. So some of these special ‘threatened species’ in the park and the number counted by rangers are:
56 Red-crowned Toadlets (Latin name: Pseudophryne australis)
7 Powerful Owls (Latin Name: Ninox strenua)
5 Long-nosed Bandicoot at North Head (Latin Name: Perameles nasuta)
3. I used the National Parks website of the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC):
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/nationalparks/
i. Clicked on the link to ‘Parks and attractions’
ii. Searched by region ‘Sydney & Surrounds’ and
iii. Selected item ‘32. Sydney Harbour Nat Park’
From there (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkHome.aspx?id=N0039) you can look at 4 maps:
i. Bradleys Head
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkSector.aspx?id=N0039&s=20080510000000186
So Bradley Head is part of the scenery and elsewhere on the map you will notice Fort Denison is part of the scenery (though man made) – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Denison
ii. Nielsen Park
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkSector.aspx?id=N0039&s=20080510000000187
Take a look at the map!
iii.North Head
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkSector.aspx?id=N0039&s=20080510000000185
Take a look at the map!
iv. South Head
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkSector.aspx?id=N0039&s=20080510000000188
Take a look at the map!
4. Number of visitors.
Call the DECC information centre and ask them. Contact details here:
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/contact/InformationCentreSydneyCBD.htm
5.Impact of human activities
Residential development or the building of houses has been one of the main impacts.
“Much of the harbour foreshores had been spoiled by residential development; what remained was preserved partly because of the presence of military bases, and partly because of the work of conservationists. Early precursors of today’s “Greens” were responsible for stopping mining at Ashton Park in the 19th Century. Other places were saved because of people such as the visionary Neil Nielsen, who became the New South Wales Minister for Lands and a strong advocate of a public reserve around Sydney Harbour.” (B)
6. Problems with feral animals
Ask the DECCS centre this also. I note that Kangaroos are a major problem – though they probably aren’t “feral” to be precise.
7. See answer to question 5.
8. Ashton Park mine in the 19th Century. Take a look at reference B in the sources below.
Good luck mate!
