Yellowstone National Park question…?

This summer a few friends and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone, and I’m trying to come up with a few fun things to do. We can’t stand, for lack of a better word, touristy activities. We are all somewhat nerds (all working on MDs), so we love the scientific aspect of anything. Does anyone know any good scientific centers to visit in Yellowstone? Google searches don’t turn up any results.

Two things I would recommend. One for sure is float the Snake River starting point Jackson Hole Wy. The other non-tourist thing I would do is at Alpine Wy 40 miles down the same canyon you just floated down Rent all terrain vehicles (four wheelers) at the Yamaha dealer. Then head up the Grey’s River a forest service gravel road adventure. I visit Yellowstone about once every ten years, always in the off-season. Last visit was May 2007. However the adventure up the Greys river I can never get enough of.

While in Jackson be sure to take in Bar J Chuckwagon – Jackson Hole, Wyoming – Chuckwagon Supper and Western Show. This is touristy but brings back the locals year after year.

Why call it Tourist Season if we can’t shoot them?
