sequoia national park kings canyon
What is your favorite US National Park and why?
Have you been to Sequoia National Park or King Canyon? Any recommendations?
I’ve been to more than 30 US National Parks and it’s difficult to pick just one or two as favorites. They are all special in their own way. For sheer magnificence I pick Glacier National Park in Montana. I’ve been white water rafting on the Colorado River thru the Grand Canyon and it is astounding. I’ve hiked to the top of Half-Dome in Yosemite and found the granite monoliths there amazing. The list goes on. Even the little parks like Windcave in South Dakota, Biscayne in Florida and Great Basin in Nevada are special in their own way.
I’ve been to Sequoia National Park a number of times and King’s Canyon once. If you’re an avid hiker/backpacker and have some time, you should definitely visit Kings Canyon. Otherwise save the time you have for Sequoia. Try to get a lodge reservation at Wuksachi for at least two nights; more if you have the time. Be sure to climb Moro Rock and see the Auto Log. Get tickets for a ranger guided tour of Crystal Cave. Hike to Tokopah Falls, Crescent Meadow and Tharps Log. Above all, see as many of the Sequoia Groves as you can and don’t leave out Big Stump. Sequoia is a beautiful park that’s peaceful and serene. You should definitely see it and plan to spend two or more days there.
Enjoy!
