can’t renew driver’s license because of parking ticket?
I couldn’t renew my N.C. driver’s license today because the state of New Jersey blocked its renewal until I pay for an unpaid parking ticket issued in 1989: 18 years ago! I was not even aware that I had this ticket; I was never notified. Now I must pay the ticket in New Jersey AND pay $100 to the New Jersey DMV to lift the suspension on my license. I have read that the National Drivers Registry is increasingly making communication among states possible. Such sharing of data and linking license suspension or non-renewal to such things as even “failure to return library books” is scary from a point of view of privacy. Have others had this experience? Was it time-consuming to solve the problem and get your license renewed?
Flee the state because of a parking ticket? That’s funny. No, I did not know I had a parking ticket. You are quite funny.
Feel fortunate that your “fee” is only $100.00 A suspended license in another state costs 285.00 to get reinstated, and for other states, in order to get reinstated, you Must get Proof of Financial Responsability, often called an SR-22 form. This is an expensive form of insurance, and in some cases, you have to carry this for up to 3 years mandatory. I am guessing you moved without using the normal Change of Address forms that are present in every post office soon after you got the ticket. That would be the only explanation as to how you never got the notice.
Good luck.
