Grizzly bears are causing problems and conservationists are worried. In the 1800s there were 50,000 grizzlies in the West now there are fewer than 1,000, about 200 of those live in and near Yellowstone National Park and formerly they caused no trouble. But in 1960 the Park Service decided to keep the park natural and the garbage dumps were closed, hotelkeepers were no longer allowed to put out food to attract the bears and the they had to fend for themselves. Although the Park Service meant well but the new rules had unexpected consequences because the grizzlies began to look for food in campgrounds and they killed sheep on nearby farms, and they began prowling in mining camps and near vacation homes and maulings and even death occured. Although the Park Service refuses to reopen the old dumps but they are going to leave food out for the bears in certain places because grizzlies won’t change their habits therefore humans must change theirs.
Grizzly bears are causing problems and conservationists are worried. In the 1800s there were 50,000 grizzlies in the West, and now there are fewer than 1,000. About 200 of them live in and near Yellowstone National Park and formerly they cause no trouble. However, in 1960’s the Park Service decided to keep the Yellowstone Park all natural. Garbage dumps were closed and hotelkeepers were no longer allowed to put out food to attract the bears. This forced the bears to have to fend for themselves. Although the park service meant well, the new rules had unexpected consequences on the grizzlies. The bears began to look for food in campgrounds and eventually ended up killing sheep on nearby farms. They began prowling in mining camps and near vacation homes in search for food. Unfortunately this caused many maulings and deaths to occur. Although the park service refuses to reopen the old dumps they are going to once again leave food out for the bears in certain places. It is because grizzlies won’t change their habits that humans must change theirs.
