yosemite national park yellowstone
Which is the most desolate of the US national parks, Yosemite or Yellowstone….. or any other?
I’d venture a guess at one of the ones tucked up in northern Alaska – Kobuk Valley? Gates of the Arctic? I can’t imagine those places having large swarms of visitors at all.
Compared to those, Yosemite and Yellowstone are like Grand Central Terminal.
Heck, Yosemite and Yellowstone are like major cities compared to a whole lot of places, such as New York Islanders home games (yes, I admit this as an Isles fan).
EDIT: Kobuk Valley was the least-visited National Park in the system in 2008, with just 1,565 visitors. That makes it the least-visited National Park in 2008, placing it at 356th place out of all 360 National Park Service sites.
Other mentioned parks’ visitor numbers in 2008. Format is “Name – Visitors (Rank),” with the rank denoting ranking among all NPS sites, not just National Parks:
Yosemite NP – 3,431,514 (19)
Yellowstone NP – 3,066,580 (23)
Zion NP – 2,690,154 (27)
Bryce Canyon NP – 1,043,321 (67)
Arches NP – 928,795 (75)
Death Valley NP – 871,938 (78)
Canyonlands NP – 436,715 (123)
Great Basin NP – 69,235 (248)
Gates of the Arctic NP & PRES – 11,397 (334)
Kobuk Valley NP – 1,565 – (356)
Dead last? That’s Alaska’s Aniakchak NM & PRES, with just 10 visitors in 2008.
The Blue Ridge Parkway was the top-visited NPS site with about 16.3 million visitors, and Great Smoky Mountains NP was the most-visited National Park.
